He may be a huge star living in Hollywood now, but growing up, Ashton was just a small-town boy from Iowa, where some of his family still lives. In a new video for HouzzTV, the actor returns to his childhood home, which he helped his stepfather build when he was just 13, to completely remodel it for his mom.
“I think everybody has a place in their life that they call home. It sort of has that feeling of home, and no matter where you go in the world or what you see or what you do, when you think of the word ‘home,’ you’re drawn to a specific place in your mind,” Ashton explains in the video, noting that this property in Homestead is what he truly considers “home.”

But, he says, now that there’s grandchildren in the picture, he wants to make the residency more modern for the family’s new generation. “There are a lot of reasons to go home and do something special like this, but at the end of the day, it’s my way of saying ‘Thank you’ to my mom,” he adds. “My mom has been the greatest influence in my life and anything that I can do to say thank you is the right thing to do.”
