Russian pilots shot at as they parachute down from jet blown out of sky by Turks in shocking new rebel footage

SHOCKING footage emrged tonight appearing to show Syrian rebels shooting at two Russian pilots in parachutes after their warplanes were downed by fighter jets.

Gunshots and cries can be heard as the parachutes descend on the shaky footage, along with calls of: "Don't shoot, let's capture them as hostages" in Turkish. A spokesman for the rebel group said the pilots were shot dead as they parachuted out of the plane over northwestern Syria.

However a Turkish government official has said the two pilots are thought to still be alive and authorities are working to secure their release from Turkmen opposition rebels. Reuters report the official as saying: "Our units, who received the information that the two pilots were alive, are working to get them from opposition rebels safely."

This comes after a video was released earlier today alleging to show a Russian pilot with a bloodied face lying on the ground surrounded by rebels chanting "Allahu Akbar".
Two Russian fighter jets were brought down by Turkish F16s after allegedly ignoring repeated warnings they were invading Turk airspace.
A US official has said initial indications suggest the Russian incursion into Turkish airspace lasted a matter of seconds.
Turkmen rebels, ethnic Turks subjected to Russian airstrikes this week, claim to have shot both pilots dead as they parachuted out of the planes.
Jahed Ahmad of the 10th Brigade in the Coast told The Associated Press two Russian crew members tried to land in their parachutes in government-held areas after they ejected, but came under fire from members of his group.
