Mr Abramovich is planning a swanky New Year’s Eve party at his home with guests including Princess Beatrice expected to attend. The 49-year-old will no doubt be glad to get away for a while following the turmoil his club is facing hovering dangerous close to the relegation zone at 15th in the Premier League.

Chelsea are facing the biggest challenge since he took ownership of the side following the sacking manager Jose Mourinho and the on-going controversy surrounding club doctor Eva Carniero.
