Donald Trump sparks uproar: Claims cops are 'afraid for lives' in parts of London 'radicalised' by Muslims

Fury over slur by US Republican front-runner

DONALD Trump’s outburst that cops were “afraid for their lives” in parts of London “radicalised” by Muslim extremists has caused uproar.

Denounced ... Trump makes incendiary speech

The Republican US Presidential front-runner tried to justify his words by saying he did not want US cities to become like Paris, which he said was “no longer the same city it was”, or London.
Speaking on American TV, he said: “We have places in London that are so radicalised the police are afraid for their own lives.”

The comments came just 24 hours after Trump triggered global condemnation for demanding a “complete and total” ban on Muslims entering the US. He drew an immediate slap-down from London Mayor Boris Johnson, who said: “The real reason I wouldn’t go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump.”

David Cameron tore into Trump, 69, for undermining the war on terror. His official spokeswoman said the comments were “divisive, unhelpful and quite simply wrong”.

London Mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith compared the attack to Nazi persecution of Jews in World War Two and called Trump “an utterly repellent figure in modern politics”.

The Met Police said: “We would not normally dignify such comments with a response. However, on this occasion we think it’s important to state that Mr Trump could not be more wrong.”

Muslim Cabinet Minister Sajid Javid retweeted a message saying anyone considering supporting Trump for the presidency should be “certified insane”. Tory peer Baroness Warsi tweeted: “As a right-wing politician, am I accountable for this idiot’s views? If so I condemn his remarks! #notinmyname.”

Earlier, campaigners called on Home Secretary Theresa May to ban Trump from the UK on race hate grounds.
