A MAN was shot dead by police this morning after he "came out firing"
during a failed plot to free a prisoner yards away from a crown court.

Scotland Yard confirmed tonight six men have been arrested two of which on suspicion of trying to free someone from custody. Two criminals at the centre of an alleged plot to free them from
custody in Wood Green, North London, have been named as Erun Izett and
Erwin Amoyaw-Gyamfi.

The unidentified man who was killed came out firing at armed officers during a targeted raid, witnesses claim.
At
9am he was pronounced dead at the scene, as cops carried out an
intelligence-led operation, believed to be part of a crackdown on gang
crime in the area.

Two men who were due to be sentenced for carjacking and firearms offences today had their case delayed.
Erwin
Amoyaw-Gyamfi and Erun Izzet were meant to be sentenced at 10am in
court three but the hearing was put back until this afternoon.

Eyewitness reports say the man came out firing and was hit in the chest by two shots fired by armed officers.
A second man was led away in cuffs following the fatal shootout at 9am this morning. Neighbours claim both men looked Turkish.

Scaffolder Phil, 53, said: "Neighbours told me what happened was they went in there to do a raid and he did a runner. "He came out shooting and police shot him with two bullets in the chest. They took one guy out and took him away."

Yard Said: "Armed officers were in attendance. At approximately 09:00
hrs a man received gunshot wounds. He has since died." The incident took place close to where Mark Duggan was shot and killed by police in 2011.

His death sparked protests in Tottenham which led to conflict with police and riots broke out across the capital. The man killed today is yet to be identified. Janice
Gosney, 60, a mum-of-two who lives opposite the shooting, said: "I
heard shouting, a lot of shouting and I heard them shout, 'Get down'. "My dog ran out there and I ran out there too. There were police everywhere.

"I was scared. I nearly had a heart attack. There were two guys. They looked Turkish. "One was on the floor behind the car and the other one was on the side of the road being arrested." Scotland Yard added there were no reports of any other injuries in
today's shooting and said the Directorate of Professional Standards and
Independent Police Complaints Commission have been informed.
Armed police remain at the scene. Another
eyewitness report from Peter, a 34-year-old scaffolder working in the
area, said: "There were a lot of armed police wearing masks and with sub
machine guns.
"The police were in a BMW with blood spattered on it. He was in the road and police were trying to resuscitate him vigorously. "There was another guy being dragged out and arrested." Scotland Yard said the operation was not related to terrorism and enquiries into the incident continue.
The Met is currently cracking down on gun and knife crime in the capital. The raids - codenamed Operation Kestrel - involve hundreds of specialist officers, including firearms teams. Local reports on Twitter showed air ambulances arriving on the scene and claimed there were "police everywhere".
