Mother of two killed trying to stop attack on mum and her six-month-old baby

A GOOD Samaritan was murdered when she tried to stop an attack on a mother and her six-month-old baby in the street, a court heard today.

Alison Wilson
Tragic Alison was killed by beast Duggan
Mother-of-two Alison Wilson, 36, was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle when she tried to stop killer Stephen Duggan who was punching a young woman who was carrying her baby in a car seat.

Brave Mrs Wilson stopped the taxi she was travelling in and with her friend Anthony Tomlinson, 43, they tried to "calm" the situation, asking the rowing couple what was happening.

He then smashed a bottle of wine over Mr Tomlinson's head and thrust the broken bottle into Mrs Wilson's neck.

The broken bottle severed her jugular vein causing a "catastrophic injury" and she died six days later in hospital after doctors could not save her, Liverpool Crown Court was told.

Duggan, 28, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies the murder of Mrs Wilson. Prosecutor Gordon Cole QC said: "The prosecution say it was Duggan who was the aggressor, it was he who lost his temper and it was he who deliberately attacked both Alison Wilson and Anthony Tomlinson.

"He inflicted two blows to Anthony Tomlinson and one blow to Alison Wilson. This was not some sort of accident as he may seek to make out. "He used the bottle with such force that he intended to cause really serious harm. He used that bottle as a weapon to seriously injure one person and to actually kill Alison Wilson.

"There were no threats issued, there was no warning. His immediate decision was to use the bottle as a weapon. The evidence is compelling. "Duggan had spent the evening drinking at his father's home with the young woman and her six month old baby son.
They had been celebrating him passing a training course and securing a new job.
