CCTV footage shows the attacker wielding a clutch of lethal household tools he had grabbed at the budget store. His OAP victim is believed to be a man in his eighties. Another man suffered a hand injury during the 11am killing in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Weapon ... one of killer's blades
The knifeman had been seen wandering down an aisle with a blade dripping blood.

Witness Ross Coles said: “He had a kitchen knife in his right hand. In his left hand he had a sharp two-pointed tool like you’d use to hold meat while you cut it.”

Ross Overton, 31, told how he and a cop pounced on the knifeman. The delivery driver said: “The man walked past my van screaming but I thought at first he was on the phone or having an argument with somebody.

“About 30 seconds later I heard a commotion so I got out my van to check. He was shouting at an elderly man. Then I saw the knives in his hands. There must have been between two and four.

"He got no attention from the old man so he walked further down the road shouting and took a swing at another man. The knife cut the man’s hand.

“He went into a shop and started shouting at people saying, ‘Shake my hand. Show me some respect’.
“A police car pulled up and officers threatened to Taser him if he didn’t drop his weapons. An undercover officer took him down and then I jumped on his back to help keep him restrained.”

Shopper Craig Rogers, 31, was in the store with his year-old daughter. He said: “A man rushed in like he was on a mission. He picked up three or four knives. They were still in the packaging.”

A woman of 65 across the road said: “I saw this chap with blades sticking out of both hands.” Thames Valley Police said last night: “A 36-year-old man from the Abingdon area has been arrested and is in custody. At this stage this is not being treated as a terrorist incident.”
