Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said Russian strikes were aimed at IS strongholds around Raqqa, the de facto capital of the jihadist group.
He said: “As a result of the successful launches by the aviation and submarine fleet, all targets were destroyed.”
The Rostov-on-Don known as ‘a black hole by NATO’ is one of the stealthiest submarines in the world.
It is capable of carrying 533mm torpedoes and Kalibr-PL water-to-surface cruise missiles.
