Baby found in drain could have been there for THREE YEARS

THE body of baby discovered wedged in a garden drain was placed there within the last THREE years. A Home Office post-mortem proved inconclusive - but revealed the baby was a boy, had been born at full term and was found with a 2013-dated coin.

Detectives are still looking for the mother of the baby after he was first discovered in the grounds of a home in Grimsby, North East Lincs on February 11. Detective Inspector Christine Calvert said: "The post mortem has revealed the baby was a boy and that he had gone to full term.

"However, the cause of his death has not been determined. It is also unknown how long his body had been in situ, but items found with him suggest it was likely to have been post 2013."


Further tests and DNA sampling will now be completed and officers will continue to follow up lines of enquiry. DI Calvert added: "I would personally like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who may have information relevant to this enquiry - no matter how insignificant they believe it to be - to come forward to us.

"At this time, very little is known in terms of the circumstances which led to the baby's death, but we are concerned that the baby's parents, in particular his mother, may need help and support following the loss of her child and as such she may be very vulnerable."

The baby's body was discovered by a plumber who was called to the home to deal with a blocked drain. 

The woman homeowner, aged in her 50s, confirmed the baby was found in a bag by the plumber.
Samples taken during the post mortem are now being sent off for further testing and DNA profiling.
