Heartbroken boy, 9, has lived at his nursery for YEARS because his family never returned to pick him up

Xiao Xia was abandoned by his parents in Changchun, northern China.

The nine-year-old - known as Xiao Xia - was first taken to the nursery in Changchun, Jilin province, north east China, aged six in 2013 by his grandfather. But after one month's fees ran out, he simply left Xia at the gates one day and never came back to collect him. Now Xia lives, learns, eats and sleeps at the school. His bed is a ramshackled jumple of quilts and sheets, laid out in the kindergarten's cloakroom when the other children have gone home.

Although his grandfather initially took the little boy to school each day, he simply decided not to bother collecting him a month later when the school asked for tuition fees to be paid.

He is now far too old to attend the school but nobody is willing to organise or pay for him to be transferred to a primary school.

The nursery has reportedly been able to make contact with the boy’s grandfather but he refused to come and collect him, saying he couldn’t afford to keep him.

Xiao Xia has told China’s People's Daily that he misses his parents every day and that his only Chinese Lunar New Year wish is to be reunited with them.

Although Xiao Xia misses his parents desperately, the fact he has hasn’t seen them for a third of his life means he can hardly remember what they look like. The boy’s only hobbies are studying at the school, according to MailOnline.

Sadly the chances of Xiao Xia ever being reunited with his family are slim as his grandfather has since moved to an unknown location and his father has remarried and also moved away.
