More trouble for Top Gear: Vintage Mustang breaks down during filming as first pictures emerge

PICTURES of the new Top Gear hosts taking supercars for a spin in the Scottish highlands have emerged - but there seems to be more trouble for the plagued revamp.

After a series of reported problems for the new cast, led by host Chris Evans, there appears to be yet more bother as they try to get the new series off to a flying start. New co-host Rory Reid was behind the wheel of a classic Ford Mustang as producers planned a test drive across the Kylesku Bridge in Scotland.

But Reid, dubbed a "foulmouthed Jeremy Clarkson", failed to speed off into the sunset when the car broke down on Saturday night and had to be taken off for repairs - signalling another bump in the road for the BBC show.

Angus Mackillop and Dave Ross, owners of Horsepower Cars and Ross's Garage in Inverness were called upon to help find a cylinder head gasket to fix the broken motor before filming again the next day.

But as the local engineers took the engine apart while cameras were rolling they found a number of other problems inside the car that needed fixing. Producers arranged for two trips up to Aberdeen for vital parts and by Sunday morning the engine was being put back together to be delivered down Scotland's West Coast.

Ross told the Scottish Mail: "The car arrived on Saturday night about 8pm and I was working throughout the night on it. They were desperate to get it back and I was happy to oblige. I am a big fan of the programme."

The crew were travelling up the West Coast from Inverness to Durness when they fell into trouble but after the quick-fix they managed to get back on the road to complete the trip. The coastal journey is expected to finish on Thursday after the team travels back down the Highlands' East Coast.

This is not the first spot of bother 36-year-old Reid has faced since joining the flagship motoring show. The Sun revealed photos of Reid brandishing a pair of shotguns with a suspicious-looking cigarette in his mouth last week - as the new cohost bragged he was "going after Clarkson".

The south-London boy was reportedly "quite relaxed" despite the potentially disastrous engine troubles. The new line-up were testing Ford Mustangs on the North Coast 500 road for the remodelled show this weekend - almost a year after Jeremy Clarkson's controversial departure.

They were filming for three hours and had a collection of top-of-the-range and vintage Mustangs on set - including a yellow 2016 model, a blue Mustang and the doomed white 1967 motor.
