Free State man held for beating his brother to death

(iStock)A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his brother to death with a knobkerrie, Free State police said on Tuesday.

The man's 31-year-old brother was found lying in his bed with the sheets soaked in blood on Saturday, said Constable Peter Kareli.

"It is alleged that the two brothers, who were staying in Zone 2 in Thaba 'Nchu, had an argument about the manner of closing the door... the younger brother slammed the door when he entered the house and the older brother did not like it."

Kareli said a fight ensued which resulted in the older brother allegedly hitting his sibling with a knobkerrie on the head, leaving him bleeding.

The man was discovered by a concerned neighbour who had not seen him for a number of days, said Kareli.

"He knocked at the door and found that the door [had] been left unlocked and entered.  Upon peeping in the younger brother's bedroom he found his lifeless body [lying] face down with blood everywhere," he said.

The man's brother was later arrested in Botshabelo outside Bloemfontein. He would appear in the Thaba 'Nchu, Magistrate’s Court soon, said Kareli.
