FIFA to pay injured Coleman's wages

FIFA will pay Everton defender Seamus Coleman's wages during his recovery from a broken leg sustained in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
 
The Republic of Ireland international fractured the tibia and fibula in his right leg following a poor challenge from Neil Taylor in the goalless draw with Wales.

Taylor went into the home team's dressing room after the Group D clash in Dublin to apologise for his tackle, and Coleman underwent surgery later that same day.


The 28-year-old is facing roughly a year on the sidelines, with world football's governing body set to cover his wages at Goodison Park - believed to be around £45,000 a week.

Clubs are allowed to claim up to £112,731 of a player's weekly wages if the injury is suffered on international duty, as per FIFA's Club Protection Programme.
