Kirinyaga police launch probe into attack linked to illicit brew

Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations after an assistant chief was attacked after apparently receiving threats over the crackdown on illicit brew.

Mr Lucas Muchai  Gichoya is reported to have narrowly escaped death after his house was set on fire in Kimunye area.

The Njuuku assistant chief said he raised the alarm and his neighbours came to the rescue.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mr. Gichoya intimated that he had received several warnings from people he recognised as alcohol traders whose equipment he had impounded.

Crack down on illegal brew has intensified around the country with the relevant authorities shutting down several bars that were operating illegally.

Kirinyaga police boss David Kirui has maintained that the crackdown will continue irrespective of the incident.
