Charles Onyancha, 51, is reported to have set Peninah Njoki Wambua’s house ablaze at about 11pm in Kagongo village, Mathioya constituency.
The two are said to have been lovers. The suspect was beaten to death early Sunday morning at Kagongo shopping centre after an enraged mob had spent the entire night looking for him.
According to Mioro Chief Alice Macharia, the suspect, Onyancha had been employed as a gardener in the area.
