Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Sunday said it killed five Al-Shabaab militants during the group’s attempt to raid a Kenya-US base in Lamu County.
“Following a military operation, 5 bodies of neutralised terrorists were recovered. Search for more is on-going. 1 PKM gun, 4 RPG launchers, 4 AK 47 rifles, 1 hand grenade and assorted ammunition were captured,” said KDF in a statement to newsrooms.
In the 5.30 am failed attack, the militants aimed to breach Manda Airstrip before raiding the US Africa Command counter-terrorism camp. “The situation has been contained on ground and normal airstrip functions set to resume,” said KDF.
The Kenyan military warned that the Al-Shabaab group is known for propagating false and misleading information in an attempt to grab headlines. Their contorted plans have not and will never succeed,” said KDF.
