THE Leytonstone Tube attacker had a “crazy look in his eye”
according to a hero passenger who was slashed as he gave others the
chance to get away.
Dad-of-one David Pethers, 33, went for the
knifeman after he ran amok at the East London station screaming “This
is for Syria” on Saturday night.
The suspect had stabbed and “sawed” a 56-year-old musician in the arm and neck with a long-bladed box cutter.
Brave cops, initially kept at bay as the maniac swung his knife,
managed to Taser him and led him away as an angry crowd jeered and threw
missiles, including bottles.
One Londoner in the crowd believed to be a Muslim himself spat out: “You ain’t no Muslim, bruv. You’re an embarrassment.”
David suffered a three-inch cut near his windpipe as he confronted the attacker after walking into the station at 7pm. He tried to leave after seeing “blood everywhere” but heroically
turned back with another man after the slasher threatened a woman with
children cowering nearby.
David said: “He was saying something about Syria. “To be honest he just looked crazy, he just had a crazy look in his eye. “There
was a guy with a rucksack saying, ‘Calm down, let’s talk about this’
and I saw this guy was going to go for him. Basically we kind of
contained him in the main ticket area. He went for me and I went for him
and he cut my neck.
“I was dragged away, I was bleeding from the
neck. I know it sounds crazy but I went back for another go. To be
honest, I was scared but at the same time I wanted to kill him. “Then the police turned up. They fired Tasers and then contained the situation.”
David slammed bystanders who filmed the action on their phones rather
than trying to help. He said: “There were so many opportunities where
someone could have grabbed him.”
Video footage shows the attacker going berserk before officers turn up. Footage shows cops telling him to “drop the knife,” before firing a
50,000-volt Taser bolt. The suspect falls to the ground but refuses to
drop the weapon and is zapped a second time. He goes into a spasm,
finally dropping the blade.
