Brave Kenyan Muslims protect Christians in Mandera terror attack

A BUS-LOAD of Christian passengers who were ambushed by suspected Islamic militants were spared death – thanks to the actions of a brave group of Kenyan Muslims.

The terrorists, thought to belong to Somali based al-Shabab, killed two people in the attack before ordering the bus passengers to split into two groups. Deputy county commissioner Julius Otieno said:

‘They were trying to identify who were Christians and who were not. They told the non-Christians to return to the vehicle.

But in a bid to protect the terrified Christian passengers, Muslims on board the bus refused to bow to their demands, insisting that they all be either released or killed in a show of solidarity.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba said: “The locals showed a sense of patriotism and belonging to each other by insisting that the al-Shabab should kill them together or leave them alone.”

The attack took place near the north-eastern village of El Wak on the Somali border – an area often targeted by Al-Shabab militants.

However, the Islamic terrorist group, which is linked to al-Qaida, has not claimed responsibility for the attack on the bus, which was travelling from the capital Nairobi to the town of Mandera.
