Louis van Gaal will require extra security if he is still Manchester United boss against Chelsea

MANCHESTER UNITED have beefed up security for Louis van Gaal after fans at Old Trafford turned on him.

Extra minders were brought to the dugout area as tempers boiled over during the 2-1 defeat to Norwich on Saturday. There were clearly real fears that home fans might have tried to get to the Dutchman.

The need for added safety highlights the depth of feeling against the manager as United’s season hits crisis point. It is now a case of when not if Van Gaal goes. And contact has already been made with Jose Mourinho via an intermediary after he was axed at Chelsea.

Van Gaal has lost the players, the fans  and the mood at boardroom level has shifted too. The level of booing on Saturday was the worst at Old Trafford during either previous boss David Moyes’ or LVG’s ill-fated tenures.
