Criminals targeted a licensing station over the weekend in Umbilo, Durban, stealing its computers. Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu lashed out at the perpetrators on Monday."It is quite disturbing to note the extent of the greed and audacity of the thieves, who show no care about plundering the services of the nation," Mchunu said in a statement.
According to the KwaZulu-Natal transport department, the thieves stole computers which resulted in operations being stopped, as the station was unable to function without them.
"Because of their nefarious work, the Umbilo Motor Licensing station will not be operational until further notice.
"We urge the affected members of the public using the station to be patient, and advise that they go to nearby stations, including in Pinetown, to get assistance with licensing services," Mchunu said.
Mchunu also called on anyone with information on the theft to contact local police.
