AN NHS 111 adviser has killed herself in a call centre while working for the same trust that missed chances to save year-old sepsis tot William Mead.

Emma Alsopp, 22, was found hanged in a toilet during a break in a 12-hour shift. News of her suicide comes days after the NHS said staff at the 111 service run by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) failed to identify one-year-old William’s life-threatening problems.

Emma, said to be under pressure from the volume and type of calls, worked at the hotline’s West Hub office in Exeter, Devon.

She was found dead by colleagues after failing to return to her desk during the last of a run of four 12-hour night shifts. Her distraught family were trying to work out why she took her life.

The centre is the sister office to the one in Dorset responsible for failing baby William.
He was let down despite a report linking the deaths of three other children to the 111 line.
