Governors should be answerable to Senators – Speaker Muturi

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has said that Governors should be answerable to Senators on how they utilize public funds. Muturi said the Senators are expected to exercise their oversight role in their respective counties, which they were elected to do.

Speaking at a fundraiser at Kangeta Catholic Church on Sunday, Muturi said that they have agreed as the National Assembly to enable the Senate monitor counties.

He further stated that the National Assembly is lining up a Supplementary Budget, which will be ready by next week, to empower Senators to oversee operations of county governments.


At the same time, Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, who is the chairman of the Monetary and Evaluation Committee in the Senate, said that Governors must be accountable.

Kiraitu noted that Jubilee Party is championing for devolution by offering a platform for the counties to raise issues affecting them.

Other legislators who were present at the event include Women Representative Florence Kajuju, Igembe Central MP Kubai Kiringo, Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, and Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburu.
