Gunners swoop for Leicester hero who currently earns £80,000-a-week
ARSENAL have made a bid to trigger Leicester striker Jamie Vardy’s release clause. The Foxes and England forward, 29,
signed a new £80,000-a-week deal with the Premier League champions in February and a £20m clause was added to the contract.

According to reports in the
Guardian, Arsene Wenger has swooped for the former Halifax and Fleetwood man. Vardy completed a stunning rise from non-league obscurity by scoring
27 goals for club and country this season, winning the Barclays Player
of the Season award in the process.

West
Ham launched a similar audacious bid in early May and were prepared
to offer the Sheffield-born forward £140,000-a-week in wages.
Triggering a release clause does not automatically mean a transfer
will be done and the Gunners would need a serious offer to tempt Vardy
to make the switch to the Emirates.
But it represents a change
of tack from Arsene Wenger who has received criticism in recent years
for failing to pay big money for players in key transfer windows.
