Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday, August 11 after being declared winner of the 2017 presidential election, President Kenyatta thanked all Kenyans who ‘voted for him overwhelmingly’.
“I want to extend gratitude to my worthy competitor and worthy opponent to join us in steering this country forward,” said President Kenyatta.
The Jubilee Party candidate insisted that his first priority as President will be to unite Kenyans and ensure that Kenyans remain peaceful.
Kenyatta promised to work for each and every Kenyan regardless of political divide or tribe. “Let us continue to live as brothers and sisters and embark on transforming this country.
Let not the election outcome divide us. I will be President for all and we will start on our journey of building the nation.” “I want to tell all Kenyans to co-exist peacefully. To our NASA leaders, let’s work together because we are not enemies,” added Kenyatta.
Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner of the Tuesday (August 8) presidential election by IEBC after garnering 8,203,290 votes, a 54% representation of all votes cast, against his closest challenger, Raila Odinga, who got 6,762,224 votes (44%).
