Nina Paunova, described as “kind and beautiful” by her parents, drove her car through a hedge at 60mph after she received the message and was later found hanged less than a mile from her boyfriend’s home after cutting herself.
An inquest heard how the 20-year-old from Hull had previously threatened to throw herself off a balcony following an argument with lover Samuel Scott. The former couple were due to fly out to Menorca for a holiday on September 11 last year after getting back together in the summer.
But just three days before they were due to fly, Scott broke up with Bulgarian born Nina, sending her screenshots of texts Nina had sent to her pal Elizabeth Gough saying she would “ditch him” after he spent £2,000 on gifts for her.
Earlier Scott had sent her a list of what he had spent on her including, he claimed, £10,000 in jewellery and clothes. He had also spent £4,500 on trips to London and splashed out on £2,000 breaks to Menorca and Croatia.
The messages her ex-boyfriend found read: "I told you what my plan is. "Straight after my 21st and after he has spent £1,000 to £2,000 I'm gone. "After all the **** I've put up with. I will literally take my presents and the week after my 21st end it and delete him."
The hearing was told how Scott had threatened to post the screenshots of the messages on Facebook to expose Nina who was “obsessed” with social media. Nina raced at 60mph to Scott’s house just after midnight but he refused to let her in despite her threats of suicide.
The following morning she was found hanged with cuts to her wrists and a knife and her mobile by her side. Her family had previously warned the young student about the relationship and in the hours before her death Nina texted her mum saying: "I guess I should have listened sooner to you."
